Are you doing a fairly regular 9-5 job at the moment, but it’s not something you love to do and want to be able to follow your goals while keeping an income to live on?
Perhaps you’re sitting at your work desk and daydreaming about the things you’d instead do. Maybe your job is beginning to suffer, and your manager is becoming irritated. Maybe you are just fed up and ready to move on.
How to chase your dreams while working 9-5
But there is one thing of which you are 100 percent sure. And the fact that it’s time for action. It’s time to chuck the ‘someday illness’ out and get started on the things that really make you smile while you have a job.
Here are six steps on how to chase your dreams while working 9-5 grind.
1. Have a vision
What meaning do you have of success? The vision of everyone is different. Mine, for example, is to live anywhere I want, travel as much as possible, and support people at the same time.
Yours could be to make a positive impact, a lot of money, or even both. Perhaps you dream of getting financial stability so that you can travel the world or look after your loved ones.
If you don’t know exactly where you’re headed and what you want from this part-time business you’re developing, you’re just going to waste your time and/or end up somewhere else.
Success is in the future by establishing your goal, keeping focused on it, and holding it close to your heart.
“If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.” – Yogi Berra
2. Find out your course of action
Now that you know what you want, let’s find out how to follow your goals and get you there. You need to know how to chase your vision and the version of success through careful preparation.
Personally, the best way I’ve found this is to read and immerse myself in whatever I’m planning to do.
3. Specify clear daily objectives
Right now, the time you devote to your business is limited. So you need to schedule your days and most meaningful duties as carefully as possible.
I highly recommend you read Richard Koch’s The 80/20 Principle: The Secret to Doing More with Less to help identify your most significant objectives and get things done. Not only will the book teach you how to be more successful on a day-to-day basis, but with less time, it will show you how to get better results.
Tradition and time management is thrown out of the window. You have to get serious and cut fat while you chase your dreams.
4. Be Patient
Since your time is short, it is imperative to note that it is crucial to have patience. I hate taking out this card; however, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
It’s real, as a clique as that phrase is. It’s going to take some time to get it off the ground if you want to develop your dream business into something that will be around for years to come with little time. So my mate, don’t freak out when next week you’re not a million dollars richer.
Your business will indeed not explode immediately, and along the way, you will have to make sacrifices. But you’re on your way to living life on your terms by being strategic, vigilant, and smart about the everyday goals you set.
5. Stay Disciplined
You can never get anything done with your business without discipline while working a 9-5. It takes tenacity to run a business and the capacity to manage the surroundings as much as possible.
There would be factors that you can’t monitor, of course, such as your internet going down when a website is to be created or emails to respond to. But if you’re dead serious about making a future for yourself, find a way to get around it.
Call a friend and ask them to use their website. Find a free wifi coffee shop. Go to the library locally. Whatever it takes.
You need to remain disciplined and conquer the little things that hold you back to chase your dreams. Most people don’t. So if you can stay in control and keep yourself savvy, you are well above the rest.
6. Use Your Time Wisely
How much time do you waste?
I was hoping you could do me a favor and go back to The Principle of 80/20. You’ll have a good grasp of the few activities that will give you the most results after reading that book. With limited time to do so, the most important things to you are building your business.
If you’re checking Instagram to see how many new followers you have since two hours ago – delete the app.
If you let people keep rambling on the phone because you have six items left on your to-do list – Ask them to email you with the most important things they need to discuss and get busy
If you know you’re not going to have time to work on your business tomorrow because of some outside task, stay up late tonight. Use the time you have now so that you are still progressing.
Mostly when you work 9-5 and don’t have as many hours in the day to devote to chasing your dreams, your time is precious. Make the best out of this.
How to chase your dreams while working 9-5 “The Conclusion”
Starting your business will not be easy, but it shows me that you have the guts to go for it because you’ve made it to the bottom of this article. However, I encourage you to be smart about the action you take and prepare accordingly for your success.
Going in with all the blazing guns would only contribute to disappointment and defeat.
“You have everything you need to build something bigger than yourself.” – Seth Godin
You can do this. Chase your dreams.
